OUTDOORS IN THE SMOKIES, Inc.
After retiring from a 20-year Naval career (19 years as a Navy SEAL), Dan, his wife, Colleen and family purchased 65 acres of rugged mountainside in rural Cocke County, Tennessee. Intent on remaining active, they immediately became involved with the local community & public school. The meat of this story, however, is that they also began a small business project. Originally called "Smoky Mountain Endeavors", it is best known for the annual spring and fall SEAL EXTREME CHALLENGE. That it is a 3.5 mile trail race completely fails to describe the punishment and difficulty of the course. Having acquired a well-earned reputation, the race continues to grow each year.
Smoky Mountain Endeavors also featured fitness & wellness training, ATV Motocross and shooting range & personalized instruction.
Changing names to OUTDOORS IN THE SMOKIES represented an expansion of services. Regularly-scheduled leadership courses, GPS/map reading seminars and an ominous new 12-hour race named "Fear the Reaper" are now offered & are largely based on Dan's extensive SEAL training. Very affordable, it offers a chance to learn and train under the best.
Dan and Colleen are always great hosts. Cabin rental is available year-round. As you might guess, nothing with 'Navy SEAL' stamped on it is easy. Dan is well-prepared, well-versed and TOUGH. My son and I once signed up for a seemingly relatively-easy compass/map course. We were soon surprised as Dan had us traversing across mountainsides! TATrainers VERY honored to be an official partner!
